“Nani’s my big sister. She’s a pain sometimes, but I love her anyways.”
“Yeah. I take lots of pictures. Mostly I like to take pictures of interesting things or people. I have a whole wall full of pictures. Nani says they’re ugly, but I like them. “
*Takes unflattering photograph* Wow! That turned out real good. Wanna see? *waves photo in his face.* I think I’m going to put this on my wall.
She had been late to hula class, again. Normally her teacher didn’t mind and helped her with what she had missed after class, but today, there was a substitute. This instructor made her perform in front of the entire class by herself. She didn’t know part of the dance since she had been late and was made fun of my several class members for not knowing her part. After class a few of the girls pulled her aside and continued to make fun of her. Lilo was getting tired of being picked on by these girls and finally punched one of them. The others followed and retaliated, dog piling on Lilo and beating her senseless. While she had gotten some good punches in, she had been hurt far worse than the other girls combined.
She knew she was different but she didn’t see why that would matter. Fresh tears sprang to her eyes. She hated being alone. She hated not having any friends, and she hated being different. Nani wouldn’t be home for a few more hours so Lilo did what she thought was best, she curled up into a ball, and cried.
